Betty Dishman lives in Sylva, North Carolina, USA, located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. She is a single mother to her 12-year-old son Aaron and works as an administrative assistant in the Department of Communication at Western Carolina University. In addition to taking this class – JOMC 713 – Betty has completed three other courses in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Certificate in Technology and Communication program and will earn her Master’s Certificate this December! Prior to moving to Sylva in 1995, Betty worked as an AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer and as a newspaper reporter/copy editor in various locations in North Carolina. Betty has a B.A. degree in Communications from Queens University of Charlotte and an A.S. degree from Wingate University.
Until fall 2007, when Betty enrolled in JOMC 711 (Writing for Digital Media), she had rarely read a blog, much less published her own class blog at http://bdishman.wordpress.com/ Now, she reads blogs as well as online news stories pertaining to politics and current events. Since Betty is very outspoken, she leaves quite a few comments!
